Evaluate the filtration properties of drilling fluid, cement slurries, and stimulation fluids at various downhole conditions to optimize the fluid formulations to meet the formation and operation requirements and minimize the formation damage. A series of filtration tests is conducted to evaluate fluid loss control products under various conditions of temperature and salinity. Fluid loss control evaluation helps determine the best product chemistry, effective concentration, compatibility with other additives, product limitations, and recommend the best way to introduce/use each fluid loss control product. 

Evaluate the rheological performance of different viscosifiers and other polymeric products to optimize fluid formulations and field applications. Rheology measurements are performed using state-of-the-art rheometers and viscosmeters with various geometries to better simulate field operations, including drilling, cementing, and stimulation. The rheology studies help understand the effect of polymeric products on frictional pressure losses, pumpability, and solid suspension/carrying capability of drilling fluids, cement slurries, and stimulation fluids. The rheology studies can also be used to assess the products’ hydration, stability, and performance at a broad range of temperatures (0°F to 450°F), shear rates, salinity, pH, and concentrations to target the actual downhole conditions.  

Using customers’ specific brine, drilled cuttings, formulations, and downhole conditions to perform shale/clay inhibition studies with various products to determine the most efficient product and the optimal dosage to ensure the stability of shale/clay formation, thus the maximum productivity and less intervention during drilling, stimulation, and production operations. The shale/clay inhibition study includes the cuttings dispersion test (hot rolling test), capillary suction time test, leak-off test, and compatibility study with other drilling/stimulation fluid additives.    

Scale tendency and inhibition studies are performed with customers’ specific brines to simulate actual field conditions and ensure efficient scale control. Scale tendency and inhibition are evaluated numerically and experimentally to recommend the best inhibition protocol and determine the effective product, optimal dosage, and the minimum inhibition concentration to improve the economic feasibility of stimulation and production operations.  Scale inhibition studies include jar tests, dynamic scale loop (DSL), turbidity, water analysis, and compatibility studies with other additives.  Scale control can be evaluated at various conditions of temperature, pH, and brine compositions.
